William Maurice Denhan 1909-2002 was born in Bexhill on Sea and lived at 3 Middle Furlong Seaford from 1979. He was an English character actor with over 100 film and television credits. His acting career started in 1934, his first TV role in 1938 and continued appearing on TV until 1997. He also took part in many radio broadcasts. Initially making his name in radio comedy programmes such as ITMA and Much Binding in the Marsh in which he provided over 60 different voices. He later provided all the voices for the 1954 animated version of Orwell's Animal Farm. Film credits include The Purple Man (1954), 23 Paces to Baker Street (1956), Night of the Demon (1957), Two-way Stretch (1960) Sink the Bismark (1960) HMS Defiant (1962) Those magnificent Men in their Flying Machines (1965) The Day of the Jackal (1973) Minder on the Orient Express (1985) amd 84 Charing Cross Road (1987). He has extensive TV credits including twice in Doctor Who and as a Judge, fallen from grace sharing a cell with Fletcher in Porridge.
